Toast Champagne For Manayunk's Historic Green Lane Bridge Lights

The light fixtures for the Green Lane Bridge Lights were designed in 1928. A full restoration is now complete.

MANAYUNK, PA -- Manayunk is celebrating the restoration of the iconic Green Lane Bridge lights during a special event on Wednesday, October 26.

The Manayunk Development Corporation and the Manayunk Special Services District will host a champagne toast at 6:30 p.m. on the Manayunk Bridge and Trail overlooking the Green Lane Bridge below.

The two-year restoration process was paid for entirely with private donations. Restoration involved work to improve all 14 of the six-foot tall art deco lamps that line the historic bridge.

"I think they (the lights) would make Paul Cret very happy," said Jane Lipton, the Executive Director of the Manayunk Development Corporation.

Cret designed the bridge in 1928 but never got to see lights inside the Neo Classical piers, MDC said.

The 14 light fixtures, although designed in 1928, were not implemented until 1997 with help from then-Mayor Rendell.
