Tuesday Is The Deadline To Register To Vote In Pennsylvania

The 2016 elections are less than a month away, and the voter registration deadline is here. Tuesday, October 11 is the deadline in Pennsylvania.

The Keystone State has online registration, which can be completed at the portal on PA Online Voter.

In the chaotic campaign season of 2016, the vote in Pennsylvania has taken on a renewed importance.

Studies done by the New York Times previously described the state as a "bellweather" in the Presidential election, indicating that whichever candidate carried the state, could carry the nation. During the primaries, eventual nominees Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump handily won the vote.

Both candidates have expended significant resources on the state. Trump held two rallies in Pennsylvania on Monday, while President Obama and numerous celebrities have campaigned for Clinton in the Philadelphia area in recent weeks. Natalie Portman was in Montgomery County on behalf of Clinton on Monday.

According to RealClearPolitics, an average of various polls taken between September 28 and October 9 shows that Clinton has a 5.8 point advantage nationwide. In Pennsylvania, Clinton's lead during that same time period is8.6 points.

Pennsylvania has long been considered a swing state, although Democrats have come out on top in the last several Presidential elections. The state was won by President Obama in 2012 and 2008, John Kerry in 2004, Al Gore in 2000, and Bill Clinton in 1996 and 1992. The last Republican to win Pennsylvania was George H.W. Bush, when he defeated Michael Dukakis in 1988.
