Philly 7-Eleven Gas Tank Explosion Leaves Huge Crater: Police
The underground gas tank exploded, creating a huge crater in the store's parking lot and destroying the roof over the pumps.
PHILADELPHIA — An underground gas tank at a Philadelphia 7-Eleven exploded Tuesday morning, according to Philadelphia Police.
According to police, an underground gas tank at the 7-Eleven on the 4700 block of Mascher Street in Feltonville exploded at about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Police said the station was being demolished when the tank blew after a backhoe punctured the tank. No one was hurt, police said.

A fire broke out due to the explosion, but Philadelphia Fire Department crews quickly knocked the fire down, according to NBC10.
CBS Philadelphia crews captured footage of a huge crater left in the store's parking lot by the exploding pump.

The roof over the pumps was also destroyed, Fox 29 reports. Police said the main store structure is still intact, however.
Police said Homeland Security was notified, as well as the bomb squad.
