Top Volunteer Opportunities This Holiday Season

A list of local places to lend a hand.

Looking to give back this holiday season? You don't have to look too far. Below are a list of local volunteering opportunities

The Salavation Army needs bell ringers for this year's Red Kettle Campaign. There are locations throughout the Delaware Valley. The organization also needs toy sorters this holiday season before they are distributed to underprivledged children throughout the area. According to its website, North Light is a place where "children come to learn any play, where their parents come for advice and assistance, where neighbors meet to discuss community issues and new solutions are formed." The community center is always looking for volunteers and, its website continued, the opportunities are "varied and abundant.

There are a number of volunteer opportunities avaiable at Journey's Way including activity assistants, arts and crafts leaders, trip monitors and special events helpers. For a full list of volunteer opportunities and to download the volunteer application, click here.

The Northern Home For Children is, according to its website, looking for volunteers for its tutoring mentoring club that helps students ages 10 to 14 in the subjects of math, English and science. Tutoring hours are from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The literacy clib, that works with children who are struggling with phonics, reading and comprehension skills is also looking for volunteers. Volunteers with special skills, such as computers, arts & crafts, horticulture, theater and music are also needed to teach workshops and programs.
