Walnut Lane Bridge To Close In Roxborough

The route will be detoured for several months.

ROXBOROUGH -- Walnut Lane bridge will be closed and detoured for several months to build a new concrete deck, and install new sidewalks, according to PennDOT.

During the bridge closure, Walnut Lane through traffic will be detoured over Wissahickon Avenue, Midvale Avenue, and Henry Avenue. One sidewalk will be maintained for pedestrian traffic during construction.

The six-span Walnut Lane bridge was built in 1907. The concrete arch structure is 565 feet long and 60 feet wide. It carries 16,810 vehicles a day.

Buckley and Company, Inc. of Philadelphia is the general contractor on the $14,769,654 contractor which is funded with 100 percent federal funds. The project is expected to finish in August 2017.
