Manayunk Landlord Allegedly Shot, Killed Tenant In Rent Argument

The landlord has been charged with murder.

UPDATE: The woman who shot a man in Manayunk early Saturday morning is now facing a murder charge after she and the victim were involved in a rent dispute, according to Philadelphia Police and Philly.com

Anthanasia E. Moncrief, 28, has been charged with murder and possession of an instrument of crime, court records show.

Moncrief was denied bail, court records show.

According to Philly.com, Moncrief shot and killed a tenant, 32-year-old Richard Spadel, Saturday morning after an argument over Spadel's missed rent payments.

The outlet reports the argument led to pushing and shoving and eventually Moncrief grabbing and firing a gun at Spadel, hitting him in the back.

When police arrived at the scene, Moncrief said Spadel was on the second floor, suffering from a gunshot wound to his right upper back, police said.

Police saw a male attempting to give Spadel medical aid, but Spadel was later pronounced dead at the scene at 2:55 a.m. police said. The investigation is active and ongoing with the Homicide Unit.

Moncrief is set to appear for her preliminary hearing on Feb. 8, court documents show.
