4 Killed In Fiery Sewickley Township Crash, Prompting Cancellation Of School Events

According to authorities, a vehicle crashed into a tree and erupted in fire, killing four people trapped inside.

SEWICKLEY TOWNSHIP, PA. — Four people died in a fiery solo-vehicle crash in Sewickley Township early Saturday morning, prompting the Yough School District to cancel all school-sponsored activities through the weekend.

Pennsylvania State Police were called to the crash on Creek Road just west of Stone Lane shortly before 3:30 a.m., according to the Westmoreland County Coroner’s office.

A passing driver reported the fiery wreck, and troopers arrived to find a vehicle had struck a tree and erupted in flames.

Firefighters worked to put out the flames and discovered the bodies of multiple people inside the vehicle, according to the county coroner.

There were no immediate reports of survivors, and police did not immediately release the identities and ages of the victims. However, there were early indications that at least one of the victims may have been a local student.

Yough School District Superintendent Anthony DeMaro issued a statement about the crash on the Yough Senior High School website, canceling all school activities Saturday and Sunday.

“A car accident involving multiple individuals has been reported, and we have received information indicating that there were fatalities,” he wrote. “At this time, we have limited details and are awaiting confirmation from appropriate authorities so that we have accurate information.”

He urged students and families to refrain from spreading rumors about the crash and to pray for the victims.

“As we receive confirmed information, we will provide updates and share next steps to best support our students, staff, and school community. We understand that news like this is difficult to process and ask that you please refrain from speculation or sharing unverified details, including on social media,” he added. “Please keep all those involved in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. We also want to thank our first responders and agencies for their efforts and diligence, as they continue to investigate.”

A makeshift memorial popped up at the site of the crash Saturday.

Aubree Paul, a Yough Senior High School student, told Channel 11 she lost her best friend in the crash.

“She was an amazing person. She was beautiful. She was really funny and so kind,” Paul told the outlet.

The investigation remains ongoing, pending autopsy and toxicology results. Anyone with information is urged to call the Pennsylvania State Police at (724) 832-3288.
