Jean Butterworth Wickwire

She was a founder and lifelong member of Planned Parenthood of Western Pennsylvania.

Jean Butterworth Wickwire, age 92, of Sewickley died peacefully on Friday, December 16, 2011. She was born in San Francisco, California, on August 17, 1919 to Mary Stillman Butterworth and Emerson MacMillin Butterworth.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ward Alington Wickwire, Jr. of Sewickley, and by her sister, Mary Butterworth Menzies of San Francisco.

She is survived by her 3 sons, Ward Alington III of Mequon, Wisconsin, Emerson MacMillin of Boca Grande, Florida, and Peter Robinson of Arvada, Colorado; by 7 grandchildren; and by 3 great grandchildren.

Wonderfully gifted with creatively artistic talents, she wove these into her lifelong work with women from all walks of life to develop artistic talents to express and enrich their personal lives. Her focus on helping other women included efforts to assist women to help them realize and expand their own potential in family and community. She was a founder and lifelong member of Planned Parenthood of Western Penna.

An ardently active golfer until physically curtailed at age 90, she loved and was involved with everything about the game, its players, workers on the course itself, and golf associations.

Burial services will be private. A date for a reception for close friends is being set by the family.

For  consideration, the family suggests a gift to Planned Parenthood of Western PA to support education and assistance in women’s family needs, or to any favorite charity which enriches lives in and the beauty of Western Pennsylvania. Arrangements by .
