She was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on July 17, 1926 to the late Joseph and Helen (Griffin) Fulton. Beloved wife of eight years to Furman South; loving mother of Dr. William Polan (Kerstin) of Ottawa, Canada, Maureen Polan Murphy (Harold) of Montreal, Canada, Deborah Polan Jackson of Ottawa, Canada, Rosalie Polan Corby of England, Desmond Polan (Teresa) of Ottawa, Sharon Polan (Robert Thornton) of Toronto, Canada, Lizanne Polan Couillard (Denis) of Toronto, Canada, and Frances Polan Thuringer (David) of Toronto; step-mother of Hank Smith (Barbara) of Sewickley, Ann Malick (Mark) of Sewickley, Mary Gaad (Richard) of Johnstown; proud grandmother of 19; cherished sister of Fred Fulton (Linda) of Toronto and the late Maureen Wiley.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Dr. William Desmond Polan. Frances was a member of and the . She was assistant Chaplin at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada.
