Other Voices: Sewickley Resident and Longtime Ben Avon Heights Mayor Worked to Serve the Community
Koch served as mayor of Ben Avon Heights and volunteered with several community organizations, including Meals on Wheels.

John L. Koch Jr., a Ben Avon Heights resident for 45 years, "jumped at the chance" to serve as mayor of the borough of about 400 people, daughter Sarah Koch told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
Koch Jr. of , and formerly of Ben Avon Heights, was mayor for 22 years, from 1984 to August 2006, when he resigned for health reasons.
He died Monday, Oct. 10, 2011, in Valley Care Masonic Center in the . He was 84.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in in Sewickley. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at The Presbyterian Church in Sewickley. The family asks that memorials be in the form of donations to The Presbyterian Church, 414 Grant St., Sewickley, PA 15143.
