Sewickley Civic Garden Council Recognized for 50 Years
The garden council has plenty in the works for the remainder of the year.
Local legislators recently recognized the Sewickley Civic Garden Council with serving the community for 50 years.
In recognizing the 50th anniversary, SCGC's new board received citations from Sen. Matt Smith and State Rep. Mark Mustio on Monday, Sept. 9 on what was the garden council's first meeting of the new year.
Alisa Lenhardt, president of the garden council, said the group has great plans coming along for the remainder of the year, including a bulb planting day and a wreath workshop in December for members.
"We are hopeful the community will join us in 'painting the town gold' by planting daffodils this fall. I think it will be a great way to attract visitors to our local businesses in the spring," Lenhardt said.
Sewickley Civic Garden Council was formed in 1963 when members of local garden clubs--Allegheny, Grapevine, Little, Men’s, Quaker Valley, Seedlings, Trowel and Error, and Village--met to coordinate their efforts toward beautifying Sewickley.
The garden council coordinates the efforts of individuals and garden clubs that work to improve and preserve the appearance of the Sewickley area. The group also encourages interest and appreciation of nature through educational programs.
