Sewickley Police and Fire Departments Assist with Water Rescue

Boat called for help when taking on water.

Sewickley police and fire departments responded to a distress call when a boater was stranded and taking on water on the Ohio River about one-half mile from downtown Pittsburgh on July 1.

River rescue squads from Crescent Township and Neville Island also responded and assisted in the incident.

The driver of the boat was able to get the craft's bildge pump working and was able to manage the boat to Midway Dock in Coraopolis escorted by the river rescue squads. There were no injuries reported.

Two large trees were down and blocking the boat ramp in Sewickley. The borough crew was called and removed the trees on July 1.
