Whiz Kids: 8-Year-Old Baseball Team Shows Success On the Field

Whiz Kids: Quaker Valley 8-year-old tournament baseball team; Justin Richey, Sawyer D’Andrea, Ryan Edwards, Jackson Morehouse, Brock Saftner, Tommy Rozman, Evan Davidson, Ben Kimmy, Matthew Stehnach, Matt Kubinski, Bobby Serafin, Ryan Kroner, Cole Huffman.

Ages: 8

Accomplishment: The 8-year-old tournament baseball team learned that teamwork and good sportsmanship goes a long way recently during three tournaments.

The team played in three tournaments last month over a span of only 11 days and though they were tired, they continued to play great games and had even greater comebacks.

In the last tournament July 22 at Brighton Heights, the team won the semi-final game 21-9 after coming backfrom an 8-3 deficit.

They advanced to the finals against Brighton Heights, but lost a heartbreaker in the sixth inning, meaning they took home second place at the tournament.

“They learned a lot about teamwork and the game of baseball during their two-week tournament season,” said Heather Saftner, mother of player, Brock Saftner.

The baseball team members are: Justin Richey, Sawyer D’Andrea, Ryan Edwards, Jackson Morehouse, Brock Saftner, Tommy Rozman,Evan Davidson, Ben Kimmy, Matthew Stehnach, Matt Kubinski, Bobby Serafin, Ryan Kroner and Cole Huffman.
