📰 News we're reading

• Senator asks for federal funding to back Shenandoah blight fight (shensentinel.com) — Shenandoah officials are backing a $2 million federal funding request that could demolish about 200 long-blighted, unsafe homes in the borough. Leaders say the money, if approved in the federal budget, would significantly improve public safety, property values, and redevelopment prospects after decades of abandoned structures dragging down neighborhoods.

• Route 54 reopens after closure for bridge replacement (shensentinel.com) — Route 54 through William Penn and Lost Creek is back open after PennDOT replaced a deteriorating culvert over a Shenandoah Creek tributary and resurfaced the roadway. The closure had pushed traffic through Gilberton and forced Shenandoah Valley School District to reroute buses, so normal travel should now be easier for local drivers and students.
