Breese named head wreatling coach at Slippery Rock University (alliednews.com) — Slippery Rock University has hired western Pennsylvania native Jeff Breese to relaunch its wrestling program, which will begin NCAA Division II competition in the 2027-28 season. Breese brings extensive coaching experience from Army West Point and other colleges and will spend the 2026-27 year recruiting and building the program, aiming to restore SRU’s strong wrestling tradition for local athletes and fans.
3. Too many jobs, not enough workers: PASSHE trying to close workforce development gap (triblive.com) — Slippery Rock University is the only local campus in a new PASSHE pilot that builds paid internships and other work-based learning directly into coursework, aiming to connect students with better first jobs. The initiative, backed by PASSHE Foundation funding and data analysis, also supports scholarships and regional workforce studies to align degrees with real hiring needs across Pennsylvania.
4. Ronald D. "Red" Schnelle (butlerradio.com) — Longtime Portersville resident Ronald “Red” Schnelle, a 1966 graduate of Slippery Rock Area Joint High School and devoted volunteer firefighter, has passed away at 78. Friends and neighbors can pay respects Thursday, June 4, at Raisley Funeral Home in Prospect, with funeral services Friday and burial with military honors in Butler.
