Alleged Lobster Thief, Carjacker to Face Court

Charles A. Shumanis waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Tuesday on charges he tried to steal lobsters from a supermarket and carjacked a man outside a South Whitehall restaurant.
Shumanis, 46, no known address, waived his right to the hearing before District Judge Robert C. Halal, according to court records. His case now goes to Lehigh County Court.
Shumanis was arrested on March 1 after he allegedly tried to steal the lobsters from in Allentown. Then, while being pursued, he ran across Cedar Crest Boulevard and allegedly a 79-year-old man's white BMW outside the in South Whitehall.

According to court records, Shumanis is charged with robbery, robbery of a motor vehicle, aggravated assault, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, fleeing, retail theft, terroristic threats, unauthorized use of a vehicle, reckless endangerment, two counts of accident involving damage to a vehicle and driving with a suspended license.
The Morning Call reported that Shumanis appeared briefly in court today and remains in Lehigh County prison.
