Block, Bond, Daubert Win South Whitehall Commissioner Race

Incumbent Dale Daubert held on to his South Whitehall commissioner seat with a 51-vote lead over a fourth candidate in the race, according to unofficial tallies.

Political newcomers Glenn Block and David Bond and incumbent Dale Daubert won the race for South Whitehall commissioner in Tuesday's election, according to unofficial tallies from the Lehigh County website.

Daubert held on to his South Whitehall commissioner seat with a 51-vote lead over Brian Hite, a fourth candidate in the race who was also making his first bid at public office.

According to unofficial tallies, vote totals are as follows:

* Block was the highest vote-getter with 2,649 votes, or 32 percent of the vote.

* Bond received 2,509 votes, or 30 percent of the vote.

* Daubert received 1,568 votes, 19 percent of the vote.

* Hite received 1,517 votes, or 18 percent of the vote.

All are Republicans.

Block, a certified public accountant and vice chair of the township zoning board, celebrated with family, friends and supporters at the Outback Steakhouse. 

Bond, a divisional vice president for transportation for the BonTon department store chain and an emergency medical technician, celebrated his win about a mile away, at the DaVinci Science Center, where several candidates for other races had gathered to watch the count.

Daubert, a former director of property services for Lehigh County, retiring in 1992, was the only incumbent in the race.  

Hite is a member of the township planning commission and a tractor trailer mechanic.
