Cetronia Needs Volunteer Firefighters

Cetronia Fire Department has made an appeal on its web page to those interested in becoming firefighters.

The has made an appeal on its web page to those interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter.

Those who are at least 15 years old and reside near Cetronia can stop by the fire department, 3950 Broadway, at 7 p.m. on Mondays to fill out an application, according to the web posting.

Those who are at least 18 would be trained at a fire academy to battle blazes inside structures. Those between 15 and 17 years of age can be trained to fight blazes outside of structures.

Openings are also available for the volunteer fire police team, which assists firefighters by shutting down roads at fires or car accidents and controlling crowds at fire scenes.

The Cetronia Fire Co. is one of four fire companies serving South Whitehall. It was founded in 1924 with 24 members. It currently has about 32 active members and handles more than 400 calls annually.
