David Bond Joins Race For Township Commissioner

David Bond, a divisional vice president for transportation for a department store chain and an emergency medical technician for local ambulance corps, has joined the race for South Whitehall commissioner.

Bond, 47, who moved to the township in 1997 from York, is responsible for the transportation of merchandise from The Bon Ton department stores' three distribution centers in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Illinois to its retail stores in 23 states.

He is active in emergency medical services in South Whitehall and surrounding communities, as a technician with both the Cetronia Ambulance Corps and Northwestern Ambulance. He is a volunteer support member for Woodlawn Fire Department, assisting with training and special events. 

Bond will run in the Republican primary on May 17th for one of three available seats. The term is four years.

He also plans to seek the Democratic nomination as a write-in candidate.

Bond said he is joining the race because of a desire to help the community. He said he is happy with the direction the township is going, and he sees the election as an opportunity to help continue that process.

In his job for The Bon-Ton, he said, he does a lot of problem-solving and analytics. In a prepared release, he also pointed to his work experience in customer service, human resources, budgets and operations as skills he would bring to the position.

"I strongly believe in planning and execution to get the right results the first time," he said in the release. That, he said, coupled with "my desire to listen and learn from our residents, I feel I can represent South Whitehall Township residents well." 

Bond had been a registered Independent, and recently registered Republican. He said he had traditionally voted Republican and decided to assign himself to the party he felt strongest about, that reflected his value system.

Bond has a bachelor's degree in business management-marketing from Mississippi State University. He grew up in Mississippi, later moving to Virginia and York, Pa., before relocating with his job to South Whitehall.  

He is president of Grandlawn baseball, a youth baseball league in South Whitehall for children age 5 to 16.
