In the release, Cedar Fair said the purchase will allow the park to add new rides and attractions, further develop the park and expand parking.
"We are excited about the expansion and development opportunities this additional space will provide to Dorney Park, as well as the increased economic impact it will have for the county," said Cedar Fair President Dick Kinzel in a prepared release.

Lehigh County officials announced in January that it was trying to sell the land for at least $2.5 million, but to a buyer who would generate jobs and tax revenue.
Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom has long been important to South Whitehall's economy. Amusement tax revenue from the park amounts to $1 million to $1.3 million annually for South Whitehall.
The 6.78 acres of county land is at the southwest intersection of Hillview and Dorney Park roads near Interstate 78 and Route 222. Once it had been designated as the site of a Korean War Memorial but that never came to fruition there.
Kinzel said he appreciated the opportunity to bid on the land. He also thanked county officials "for their ongoing strong support of regional economic development and tourism."
The transaction would likely take place 30 to 60 days after commissioner approval.
