Young People's and Jr String Philharmonic of the Lehigh Valley Holiday Concert

 Both the Senior Orchestra (the Young People's Philharmonic) and the Junior Orchestra (the Junior String Philharmonic) will perform a wide selection of music at the 35th Annual Holiday Concert.

The Young People's Philharmonic is a full symphony orchestra of 68 instrumentalists from grades eight through 12 and they come from every part of the Lehigh Valley and beyond.  The YPP will perform Felix Mendelssohn's Overture to Midsummer Night's Dream.  Next, the orchestra will perform the opening movement of Anton Dvorak's Symphony No. 8 in G Major, Opus 88, followed by Modeste Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain.Then the orchestra will play Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakoff's Dance of the Buffoons from his Snow Maiden Suite.   The program will close with Leroy Anderson's Christmas Festival, into which is woven a collection of secular and sacred Christmas pieces that we hear during the Christmas holiday time.

  For this concert, the Jr. String Orchestra will perform the first movement Mozart's Eiea Kleine Nachtmusic, Jeffrey Bishop's Declarations and Elliot del Borgo's Suite for Strings.  Amoung other pieces they will do are Respghi's Ancient Airs and Dances and everyone's favorite, Greensleves as arranged by Michael Hopkins. The orchestra is composed of 44 string instrument players, fifth grade through ninth grade, and they come from every part of the Lehigh Valley.
