Local Ten Thousand Villages Store to Donate 15 Percent of Sales Friday, August 29, 3-7 p.m., to Aid Area's Disadvantaged Children

Community Shopping Event kicks off 10-day drive to collect school supplies for children in need

Ten Thousand Villages’ Lehigh Valley store will spotlight the start of the new school year by donating 15 percent of all sales on Friday, August 29, 3-7 p.m., to Cradles to Crayon, the regional nonprofit that addresses the poverty faced by more than one in five children, birth to age 12, in the southeastern Pennsylvania area.

The Ten Thousand Villages retail outlet is located at 904 Lehigh Valley Mall.

The Community Shopping Event will also mark the start of a 10-day drive, ending Sunday, September 7, to collect needed school supplies for the area’s low-income and homeless children.

“Ten Thousand Villages is proud to host this important drive that will benefit disadvantaged children in our community,” said Tina Huyler, manager of the Lehigh Valley store. “We are asking our shoppers to bring new school supplies, including notebooks or composition books, crayons (24-pack), colored pencils (12-pack), pencils, pencil cases and sharpeners, blue or black pens, pocket folders, glue sticks, rulers, erasers and scissors.

“Along with participating Ten Thousand Villages retail outlets throughout the region,” Huyler said, “we are pleased to join forces with Cradles to Crayons in this event - critical for the children served by Cradles to Crayons as well as for the artisans worldwide who are responsible for the unique collection of handmade items sold in our stores.”
