1st Grader Named Student of the Month

The following is a press release from the Springfield School District.

The Springfield School District September Student of the Month is Justin Wells, a first grade student at the Springfield Literacy Center. Justin is a warm, friendly and compassionate student who has a great smile. Justin lives with his mother, father and two sisters age eight and four. He doesn’t mind being the only boy in the family because he has so much fun playing with his sisters and parents.

Justin is really enjoying his time at the SLC. Last year he had Michelle Manning for kindergarten and this year he has Monica VonTanhausen for first grade. Because he is so friendly, he enjoys starting off each day with his class’s Morning Meeting. He also really enjoys going to gym class with Brian Francis. He is spending more time reading this year so he likes practicing his Word Work. Justin’s favorite colors are Springfield Blue and Gold. His favorite food is noodles. And in his free time, Justin enjoys riding his bike to the park to play with his friends and family. When Justin was asked what he wants to be when he grows up, he said without hesitation, “A job that makes lots of money.” Of course, Justin plans on first graduating from high school and college.

Justin's smile and warm personality have not gone unnoticed by the staff at SLC. "Justin's smile lights up a room," said Monica VonTanhausen. "His warm and endearing personality really helps him to make great friends.” Bethany Coover, the school counselor added, “Justin is a wonderful young man! He is polite, funny, caring and kind to his classmates. He is friendly to staff and never misses an opportunity to wave at me when we pass in the hallways. I am so proud of Justin and I look forward to seeing him continue to grow in first grade this year.” Wendy Yohn, the SLC principal concluded by saying, “Justin is a good friend to all his classmates and demonstrates kindness in all areas. He is happy to always try his best and is respectful and polite to everyone. He is great peer model for others and his smile will warm your heart! For all these reasons and more, it is a pleasure to recognize Justin Wells as the Springfield School District September Student of the Month.
