Blotter: Springfield Minors Busted for Underage Drinking

Seven Minors Charged With Underage Drinking in Greenbriar Park
August 20: received a report of a noisy group in on E. Woodland Avenue. Officers responded and upon seeing the officers the group fled on foot. The area was checked and a total of seven juveniles from Folsom, Aldan, Morton, and Ridley Park were apprehended. They were taken into custody and transported to the Springfield Police Station. All of the youths were issued citations for Underage Drinking and Parks Violations and were later released to relatives.
80-Year-Old Woman’s Purse Stolen While Waiting for SEPTA Bus
August 21: An 80-year-old Parkside resident reported that she was waiting for the SEPTA bus at the bus stop in the area of W. Sproul Road and Thomson Avenue. A female exited a vehicle, described as a silver colored Honda or Hyundai and asked the victim for directions.
The woman grabbed the victim’s pocketbook that was on the ground next to her and re-entered the vehicle. The vehicle turned into the parking lot of the St. Kevin’s property and then exited the lot at Thomson Ave.
The actor threw the victim’s pocketbook out of the window of the vehicle as it was fleeing. The victim reported that a change purse with cash and change and a pair of glasses were missing from the pocketbook. The area was checked but the actor and vehicle were gone. The victim was not injured during the incident.
Party Busted, Five Springfield Minors Cited For Underage Drinking
August 23: responded to a report of a loud party in the 200 block of Powell Road. Officers arrived and located a group in an enclosed porch in the rear yard of a home. Further investigation showed that a total of five youths, all from Springfield, had been drinking. They were taken into custody and transported to the Springfield Police Station. They were all issued citations for Underage Drinking and were later released to relatives.
iPhone Cash Stolen From Home on Briarhill Road
August 23: A resident from the 400 block of Briarhill Road reported that sometime between 2 p.m. and 9:48 p.m. someone entered their home through an unlocked front door. An iPhone was missing from the dining room table and a quantity of cash was stolen from a purse that was also sitting on the dining room table. Solicitors were observed in the area prior to the incident being reported to police. The incident is under investigation by Detective James Devaney.
Report of Solicitor Leads To Arrest in Aug. 23 Burglary
August 24: received reports of a solicitor in the 100 block of Orchard Road. The area was checked but the actor was gone. The actor was then reported to be in a driveway between two homes in the 300 block of Spring Valley Road.

Patrolman Dennis McPartland responded and observed the actor, listed below, running in the 500 block of W. Woodland Avenue. The actor was stopped and the investigation showed that the actor had stolen items in the backpack that he was carrying. Further investigation showed that one of the items was an iPhone that was stolen from a home in the 400 block of Briarhill Rd. on August 23.
Donnelle Thurman, 20, of Chicago, was taken into custody and transported to the Springfield Police Station. He was charged with Burglary, Criminal Trespass, Theft By Unlawful Taking, Receiving Stolen Property, and Disorderly Conduct. The incident is under investigation by Detective Bridget McCarthy.
