Blotter: Woman Steals Hundreds From Macy's

Plus: Copper and other metal are taken from two Springfield homes.

The following information was supplied by the Springfield Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction. 

Retail Theft—Macy's at Springfield Mall at about 5:51 p.m. on Sept. 17. Nida Atshan, 24, of Bryn Mawr, was charged with retail theft and receiving stolen property. Atshan allegedly took $239.97 worth of merchandise from the store. Patrolman Nicholas Paytas responded to the scene and the incident remains under investigation by Detective Bridget McCarthy.

Stolen Property—Surrey Road at about 1:56 p.m. on Sept. 19. An unknown person stole three large sections of copper downspout from the front and rear of the apartment building.

Stolen Property—600 block of E. Springfield Road at about 7:59 p.m. on Sept. 19. Sometime during the night someone stole a large quantity of scrap metal from the rear yard of the home. The resident had been cleaning out the home and was keeping the metal to be sold at a later date. The scrap metal was hidden behind a large dumpster at the rear of the house.

Forced Entry into Residence—the 1200 block of University Avenue between 3 and 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 18. A resident reported that someone forcibly entered the home by kicking in the rear door. The home backs up to a large wooded area. It was unknown what had been taken from the home at the time of the report. The incident is under investigation by Detective Bridget McCarthy.
