Boys 9, 12 Killed By Train In Delaware County Saturday

Two young boys, ages 9 and 12, were killed after being struck by an Amtrak train over the weekend in Chester.

CHESTER, PA — Two young boys died after being struck by a train in Delaware County over the weekend.

According to Action News, Jahaad Atkinson, 9, and Ahyir Womack, 12, were killed on Saturday in Chester.

The incident occurred at about 4:35 p.m. Saturday, near the 400 block of Wilson Street, Chester Police said.

Officers were called to the area for a report of two juveniles being struck by a passing train.

The boys were hit by Amtrak Train 161, which was heading from New York to Washington, while they were with a larger group of children in the area, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

State Sen. John Kane, who represents the Chester area in Harrisburg, called for answers regarding the incident.

"We deserve to know what safety measures should have been in place to protect our community and how we keep our kids safe," he said on Twitter. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and entire community affected by this tragedy."
