Yes, I know the phrase is "hot as Hades" where Hades is the Greek underworld. But "Hades" sounds like a pluralized Haiti, right? All of this silliness started the other night when a friend and I were talking about the Habitat build in Haiti that begins in a few days.
I was telling my friend how I'm flying to Atlanta today (Saturday Nov. 5) for the Habitat - Haiti orientation and then flying to Haiti on Sunday.
My friend asked me several questions and then asked about the weather. At that time, the weather report was calling for a high of 96 F for several days. So, in response to her question, I said "it's going to be as hot as Hades." Somehow she twisted that phrase to "Haitis" (only in regard to the heat, not a generalization about that country) and, for some reason, it really tickled my funny bone.

The good news is the weather is going to be a tad cooler than was originally predicted. I checked the Weather Channel website for Port Au Prince and the daytime highs will now be in the low 90's. Better than the high 90's!
I'm packed and went through the checklist provided by Habitat. I have everything on the list, including the toilet paper and flashlight. Oh, and I have a hat, which they recommended for keeping the sun off my head, face and neck. After all, it is going to be hotter than Hades! And you know what? I can't wait!
