Watching an episode of Oprah (I'm a social viewer and drinker) the other day, I was accosted by the cynical side of my personality. A mother told of her conversion to responding to her daughter more positively/energetically even to the point of showing excitement at seeing her two or three times within a few minutes. I thought to myself, "Isn't that why you get/have a dog?"
I guess I was aggravated, yet again, by the double standard to which parents can subject their children. Just as I'm discouraged by discipline in school that is not re-enforced at home, I am also discouraged by special treatment at home that will not be forthcoming in the workplace.
Therefore, if you want to teach a child a different language (better Spanish or Chinese) like religion or morality, make sure that it's spoken at home as well as abroad, in a manner of speaking.

Otherwise, please don't be tempted by something you see on TV; just take the dog for a walk and come back for coffee. Former southwest Philly folks will know what I'm talking about.
