First Part of the Journey to Haiti Completed
I left Philadelphia for Atlanta. Next stop: Haiti
I am checked into the Sheraton Hotel at the Atlanta airport. The flight down was fine. I met several Haiti volunteers on the shuttle from the airport to the hotel. I'm surprised at the great number of middle-aged women. There are some older men, too. Not too many younger people. I'll know better tonight as our orientation/welcome dinner is at 6:30 p.m.
I expect to meet my roommate sometime soon. When I took my bag to the room it was obvious she hadn't been there yet. I spent a little time in the room reading some material I received but she didn't come in during that time.
There are two flights to Haiti tomorrow. I am on the second one, which means I have to meet in the lobby at 6:45 a.m. instead of 5:45 a.m. That works for me! (The end of daylight saving time is certainly convenient for that extra sleep!)

It's going to be a long day. I arrive in Haiti around 3:30 p.m. and have a 2-hour bus ride to the camp. Dinner will be at 6 p.m. and we will be given a "special Haitian reception."
On the return trip, I learned that I'm on the first flight out. I think that means we leave camp at 5 a.m., as I recall. I'll be back in Philadelphia next Saturday night around 5:30pm.

I am all registered now and have my tool belt, hard hat and a few Habitat for Humanity T-shirts. We're required to wear a Habitat T-shirt tomorrow morning to make it easier for them to identify and move 400 volunteers.
I am going to end this as there are only a few computers in the hotel lobby and several people waiting to use them. There is a slight chance I may be able to post a blog entry from Haiti. If I can, I will. If not, I'll catch you up when I return!
