Hobnobbing In The Stacks

Just because a young British couple has mingled with young Americans in Hollywood while older statesmen are doing the Budget Bustin' dance, don't think I'm hobnobbing with the alphabet to arrive at a soup - that's nuts!

But H is for Hobnob in its original form (habnab). To have and have not (hab is Germanic for have) is the enigma of life as a roll of the dice, though no less consequential.

In a baseball stadium, "I got it, I got it, I don't got it" is somewhat comical until, just recently, there was a tragic loss in Texas.

At the shoreline, hobnob means sharing the ocean with mommy by cupping a handful only to find it gone by the time you get back to her blanket. An early lesson of how random life's gamble is for the innocent bettor. A later lesson, the risk of over-playing the hand you're dealt.

Hats are back in style thanks to horse racing and royals racing around the world. The haves, it seems, are always putting it to the have-nots. Hobnobbing with the rich and famous is being embedded in a weird zone - in the DrySack, so to speak. So give me hobnobbing in the stacks instead. 

'To have and have not' is the essence of the free library where you can find the press free also. Walking the hallowed aisles of stacks of books,mags, journals and papers, I am royalty for a time. I can do and have what only kings and emperors were privileged in the past. Indeed, I presume to have a friendly chat, that rare form of hobnobbing, with literary greats and revolutionary spirits. Then, I leave my found treasure for another day and for others. I 'have not' a worry except that mad hatters will re-direct interest/funding towards a very different wonderland.
