Thanksgiving is finally here, so we can start our Christmas shopping. This year, I'm getting myself out of the way first. No, I'm not going to buy myself what I always wanted or convince myself that I'm worth it or grab for the gusto. I'm going to get myself off the roads, out of the mall entrances and far away from the sales.
Truly, I'm getting myself out of the way first. Then, I can live the present as the gift that it is naturally. I can digest one holiday before having another one shoved down my throat. If nothing else, I can be thankful that I live in a country where I can march to a different drumstick and be moved by a drum circle.
For I can see that I'm not falling behind if I'm not racing ahead of the crowd. In fact, the behinds are in clear view ahead of me. I can value the real scarce commodity of giving attention and consideration to people rather than things. I can appreciate the only gift that never loses its value, because it is given from the heart rather than the wallet.

Indeed, I can hear Christmas music and think of redemption rather than lay-away. I can receive a holiday greeting without feeling the pressure of commercial bleating. I can even believe in human goodness and hope for peace on Earth as my country's interests are pursued in war.
So, get yourself out of the way first and simply have a wonderful Christmastime!
