The Miserable Ones

I dreamed a dream...these "uppers" have a down side.

It's a rare day that you don't find lines at the coffee bar in our convenience stores. That's why I'm concerned about these little energy drinks that are the equivalent of 5 cups of coffee in one big swig. That and the fact that these same energy boosters are being marketed as medicinal for a desperate lack of sleep. But the biggest reason for my concern is that these "uppers" have a down side.

Sleep is meant to be the safe, secure way for people to 'work through' their obsessions and compulsions, not to mention fears and anxieties. Energy drinks promote an extended shift of obsessive/compulsive behavior that is surreal - experienced as if dreaming. Needless to say, the person in this state of induced mania, soon wakes to stark reality.

Actually, they wake to the nightmare of maxed-out nerves/feelings, money/credit and heart/stomach functions. Yes, as the football player with the concussion said, "The brain is a dangerous thing." He just forgot to add, "to waste!"

So the next round of coffee is on me; because the 5 hours of self-actualization just isn't worth the 19 hours of actual self-deprecation that is going to make me even more obsessive about compulsive buying behaviors.
