These Boots Were Made for Workin'
Does a pair of boots carry more than just the wearer?

The next week and a half are very busy professionally and personally so I'm trying to do a little each night to get organized and avoid a last minute rush for my departure date on Nov. 5 for Habitat Humanity - Haiti. This meant tonight's task was pulling the work boots out of the basement and putting them in a pile I'm starting to gather.
These boots have a storied past. The spots on them are from tarring a roof in South Carolina in the humid heat of August several years ago. (I was the smallest member of the volunteer team so I was nominated to get up on a mobile home and spread tar on the seams of the roof.) There is a scratch in the leather on the right heel resulting from slipping on the edge of a brick during volunteer work in North Philadelphia.
Soon, these boots will walk on Haitian soil and perhaps pick up a few more fond reminders of work experiences. These boots were made for workin' and they carry both their stories and me with them.
