Cardinal O’Hara Gets Ready for the Beast

Jay Watkins says the Lions will be ready for mighty Archbishop Wood.

's Lions football team received a nice pick-me-up in a 60-24 Catholic League Class AAA Division victory over Archbishop Carroll on Sunday.

The boost couldn’t have come at any a better time, since the Lions will travel and face Southeastern Pennsylvania powerhouse Archbishop Wood next Saturday at 1 p.m., played at William Tennent High School.

Wood reached the PIAA Class AAA state semifinals last year, before losing to eventual state champion Allentown Central Catholic.

The Vikings have outscored their last three opponents 161-13, winning by an average of 53.6 points to 4.3.

“Beating Carroll was real big to win this game to get that momentum going against Archbishop Wood,” said O’Hara tailback Jay Watkins, who ran for three touchdowns in the Lions’ victory on Sunday.

“We already know what Wood is going to do, they’re going to run the ball, we just have to make sure we try and stop it. It pumps us up knowing everyone doesn’t think we can win. There really is some motivation there, a lot. I hear it a lot, no one thinks Wood can lose.”
