Cardinal O’Hara Lions Add Punch
John Pontarelli was all over the field against rival Monsignor Bonner Saturday.

Cardinal O’Hara senior John Pontarelli got to play with some friends on Saturday.
The 5-foot-9, 170-pound defensive back transferred to O’Hara from archrival Monsignor Bonner.
So you had to know when the Lions played Bonner on Saturday in a Catholic League Class AAA Division game, there was one Lion fired up a little more than the rest. And Pontarelli didn’t disappoint. He made seven tackles, two for losses, and was all over the field. But the real stinger came in a Bonner 20-13 victory, the first time the Friars had beaten O’Hara since 2001.

“I think it’s why it hurts so much,” Pontarelli said.
“It really does. I know a lot of those guys over there on Bonner’s team, and I’m still friends with a lot of them, but when you’re on the field, you have to play hard and they aren’t my friends. I know this loss hits us, but I think we still showed what we could do. We just didn’t click today. I think we’ll be 100-percent better after this.”
