Cougars Host Playoff History

Cougar football team will host the first district playoff game in Springfield High School history.

football coach Tom Kline bided his time. He waited until after his team last Friday night to lay the news on the Cougars that the victory meant a No. 2 seed in the PIAA District 1 Class AAA playoffs—and hosting the first district playoff game in school history.

The Cougars will host No. 7 Academy Park, an area rival from the Del-Val League, at 7 p.m. on Friday. The personal twist is after each game Friday night, the coaching staffs of both teams sit a few tables apart at in Springfield.

“The kids will be fired up over this, any time you make history by doing something for the first time is always great,” Kline said. “This means a lot. I was teasing Jason [Vosheski, Academy Park’s coach] that will still see each other Friday night after the game and have a laugh at Moe’s. We want to go into the games healthy, so we'll see where things are.”

Springfield junior stars and missed the Marple Newtown game, Murphy, a running back, with a lingering back injury and linebacker Dougherty with a knee injury. Dougherty appears likely to play, while Murphy is still day-to-day.
