Darby Fire Company #1 to Host Fire and Safety Day Oct. 26
Community event will feature public safety displays from police, fire and EMS services

Darby ... Come celebrate and learn from the men and women who put their lives on the line every day to help keep the community safe, during a day of fun for the whole family.
Darby Fire Company #1 will host Fire and Safety Day at the intersection of New Walnut Street
and Chester Pike, Darby Borough, Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This family-friendly
event is free and open to the public.
The event will feature an array of activities for guests to check out. Participants will be able to
see inside several emergency trucks on display, try on fire equipment and learn what to do in
the event of a fire by walking through a smoke house. First responders from several area fire,
police and EMS companies will also be on hand to meet and interact with members of the
community.

“Very rarely do members of our community get a chance to meet and talk with first responders
in the neighborhood during a relaxing day. Usually, they meet them during one of the worst days
of their life,” said Kevin Carry, president of Darby Fire Company #1. “This event is great
because it gives everyone a chance to meet and talk in a fun, family-friendly environment.
Residents will be able to interact with our volunteer firefighters, local police officers and other
first responders and learn more about the public safety services available in their
neighborhood.”
Visitors will also be able to learn about the different volunteer opportunities available at DarbyFire Company #1, including firefighting, fire police, training members and administrative volunteers.

“Fire and Safety Day is an opportunity to remind people of the need for volunteer firefighters at
our station and encourage them to join,” said James Booth, recruitment and retention
coordinator at Darby Fire Company #1. “In order to continue doing our job, we need folks to step
up and help by becoming volunteer members. We hope community members will be able to
stop by to say hi during what will be a really fun event.”
Becoming a volunteer at Darby Fire Company #1 is a great opportunity. No previous experience
is required and the training and equipment are free. For more information about becoming a
