Delaware County Symphony- Chamber Concert- Beethoven Quartet No. 2
Beethoven, Music for Clarinet and Piano and Trio in G Minor for Flute, Cello and Piano, to be performed at Neumann University April 12
The Delaware County Symphony (DCS) presents the final performance of its Chamber Concert Series for the 2014-2015 season on Sunday April 12, 2015 at 3 p.m. in the Meagher Theatre of the Thomas A Bruder, Jr. Life Center at Neumann University, Aston, Pa.
This concert features Beethoven’s Quartet No. 2 in G Major, Op. 18 considered by many as one of the most beautiful and musically challenging compositions for the string quartet. It is composed with complex and changing time signatures that slowly unfolds into a rich tapestry of beautiful and delicate interwoven harmonies and light lyrical melodies. Beethoven’s creative genius quietly radiates in this work by offering each musician the unique opportunity to engage in an energetic emotional and musical conversation with the audience and with each other. In describing this quartet American musicologist Michael Steinberg said “the curve of the first violin’s opening phrase has earned the work the nickname of Komplimentier-Quartett, which might be translated as ‘quartet of bows and curtseys”.
Included in this concert will be Music for Clarinet and Piano and Trio in G Minor for Flute, Cello, and Piano, Op.63 by Carl Maria von Weber.
