Delco Man Pleads Guilty To 2018 Armed Carjacking

Federal authorities said the Chester man pleaded guilty to stealing the car at gunpoint, crashing it, and fleeing police in June 2018.

CHESTER, PA — A Delaware County man was convicted of a 2018 carjacking after pleading guilty in fedneral court recently, authorities said.

United States Attorney William M. McSwain said John Leroy Gordon, 27, of Chester, pleaded guilty to carjacking on Monday, July 29, just before his trial was set to commence.

The charge stem from a June 26, 2018 armed carjacking of a Chester woman in front of her home.

During the incident, Gordon robbed the victim of her car, which he then drove directly to Interstate 95, where he crashed it several minutes later.

Gordon fled the crash scene on foot.

However, Chester and Pennsylvania State Police officer thwarted his attempt to flee when he was taken into custody about 15 minutes the crash, less than a half mile from the crash site.

"The defendant’s actions here both terrorized the victim and jeopardized the safety of other innocent drivers. A conviction in a high-profile, violent crime case such as this one serves justice and also brings relief to the entire community," McSwain said. "I want to thank our investigating partners at the federal and local level who did such tremendous work bringing this defendant into custody."
