Driver Flees After Hitting Pole, Charged with DUI

A man fled the scene of an accident after striking a PECO pole. He was charged with DUI.

Springfield police received a report of a traffic accident in the 200 block of W. Sproul Road on May 18 at 3:26 a.m. Patrolman Andrew Graff arrived to find that a vehicle had struck a PECO pole and the vehicle was still on location but the operator had fled the scene.

A short time later, the operator, Gerald Miguel, 24, of the 300 block of S. Parkway Boulevard in Broomall, was located in the parking lot of the . He was allegedly intoxicated. He was taken to , had blood drawn, and was then transported to the police station. He was later released to a relative.

Miguel was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and related motor vehicle violations. Detective Bridget McCarthy is handling the investigation.
