DUI, Drugs, Thefts, More: Springfield Crime Blotter

Springfield Police reported two instances of thefts from gym locker rooms over the past week. See details on these and more incidents here.

SPRINGFIELD, PA — Police in Springfield Township issued their weekly crime blotter Monday.

Incidents in the blotter occurred between Oct. 3 and Oct. 9.

Oct. 3 at 6:09 p.m.
A member of the YMCA, 100 block of West Sproul Road, reported money and ID cards stolen from an unlocked locker.

Oct. 4 at 5:59 p.m.
A 55-year-old male from Philadelphia was taken into custody after Macy’s security at the mall reported he stole over $500 worth of sunglasses. The male was later released and will be charged with Retail Theft.

Oct. 5 at 12:36 p.m.
Macy’s security at the mall reported they observed a male steal two handheld massage devices and leave the store. He was apprehended and identified as 40 years old from Wilmington. The male was found to have two active arrest warrants, one from Brookhaven and was later turned over to Brookhaven Police. He will be charged with Retail Theft.

Oct. 5 at 2:34 p.m.
A member of LAFitness, 800 block of Baltimore Pike, reported his cell phone was stolen from his bag as it sat in the locker room.

Oct. 6 at 4:37 p.m.
BJ’s Wholesale reported a male had stolen a large amount of Timex watches and left the area in a vehicle. Responding officers located the suspect vehicle in a parking lot nearby and identified the suspect as 36 years old from Philadelphia and recovered $600 worth of product. The male was taken into custody and later released. Charges for Retail Theft will be filed.

Oct. 6 at 9:51 p.m.
Officer Kennedy observed a vehicle drive over a curb and grass area as it turned onto Norwinden Drive from Baltimore Pike. The vehicle was stopped near Springfield Road, and the driver found to be intoxicated. The 45-year-old male from Springfield was taken into custody and refused a test of his blood. The male was later released, and charges for DUI and traffic offenses will be filed.

Oct. 7 at 1:15 p.m.
Officers responded to the Springfield Square North Shopping Center for a report of a fight involving two people one possibly having a firearm. Upon arrival they identified one male as being involved and learned that he had arrived at the Wine and Spirits Store intoxicated and acted disorderly towards a store employee. Another male intervened, and the intoxicated male left the store. The male, 56, of Crum Lynn, was taken into custody and will be charged with Disorderly Conduct and Public Drunkenness. He was later released.

Oct. 9 at 1:39 a.m.
Officer Clifton observed a vehicle driving erratically on Norwinden Drive and surrounding streets until the vehicle finally parked on the grass at a property on the 300 block of East Springfield Road. The driver exited the vehicle and exhibited signs of intoxication and was uncooperative with police. The male was placed into custody and found to possess a quantity of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The 55-year-old from Springfield was transported to headquarters, where he stayed until released the next morning. Charges for DUI, traffic offenses and drug offenses will be filed.
