UPDATE: Struck Gas Line Temporarily Fixed
A gas line was struck near the intersection of Baltimore Pike and Andrew Road at about 9:15 a.m. Thursday.
A gas line was struck by construction crews near the intersection of Baltimore Pike and Andrew Road near Chuck E. Cheese's at about 9:15 a.m. Thursday.
Contractor crews working in the area hit a 4-inch, plastic, elevated pressurized gas line, according to Fire Marshal and Springfield Township Manager Lee Fulton.
As of 10:15 a.m. the hole and the leak have been temporarily fixed, according to Lee, and PECO crews were working to replace the damaged section of the gas line.

Just before 11 a.m. traffic was opened on Andrews Road from Baltimore Pike to shopping center only. Through traffic to the neighborhood was still blocked as gas main crews make repairs.
A row of stores, including Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union and California Tanning Salon, at 381 Baltimore Pike Stoney Creek Shopping Center were evacuated for a brief period of time as a precaution.

At about 10:20 a.m. homes that were evacuated behind Chuck E. Cheese's on Andrews Road were cleared to go back inside.
Along with Springfield Police and Fire Departments, Morton and Rutledge Fire Companies and Swarthmore Ambulance responded to the scene.
