Join Team Crozer-Keystone for the Gift of Life Donor Dash

Join Team Crozer-Keystone for the Gift of Life Donor Program's 21st Annual Dash for Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness on Sunday, April 17.

In honor of Organ Donor Awareness Month, join Team Crozer-Keystone for the Gift of Life Donor Program’s 21st Annual Dash for Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at 7 a.m. starting at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Crozer-Keystone is teaming up with The Gift of Life Donor Program and the Pennsylvania Donate Life Hospital Challenge to support the Donor Dash.

The Donor Dash promotes organ and tissue awareness and consists of 10K and 5K races, as well as a 3K walk. All proceeds from the Donor Dash support and create the programs that educate the public about the importance of this awareness. This event draws participants such as transplant candidates, transplant recipients and family members, hospital personnel, donor family members and the public.

Last year, Crozer-Keystone’s Donor DASH team finished within the top ten teams and raised more than $10,000. This year will mark the seventh year the health system has participated in the Gift of Life Donor DASH.

“Each year, thousands of lives are saved because of organ donations. It is very important to bring to awareness to the power of organ donation,” says Gwen Smith, honorary captain for Team Crozer-Keystone, president of Springfield Hospital and vice president of Community Health for Crozer-Keystone Health System.

The Health and Hospital Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) partnered with the Pennsylvania Department of Health, the Gift of Life Donor Program and the Center for Organ Recovery and Education (CORE) to support the 2016 Pennsylvania Donate Life Hospital Challenge. The Gift of Life Donor Program is a non-profit organization that serves the Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware vicinity. This group is responsible for maximizing the availability of organs and tissues used in life-saving and enhancing transplants.

Over 121,000 people in the U.S. and currently waiting for a life-saving organ transplant. According to the Gift of Life Donor Program, more than 7,200 people in this region alone are currently waiting for an organ transplant. The Gift of Life willingly participates in giving others a second chance to save thousands of lives.

How can you get involved? Becoming a donor can be a difficult decision, but your gift can help more than 50 people on the donor registration list. Signing up only takes a few minutes. You must confirm your decision each and every time you renew your license or non-driver ID, so the choice is always yours.
