In his first game as head coach of the Cougars, Kline watched as his squad posted an impressive 35-21 victory over Interboro in the season opener for both squads.
Coming off last yearβs playoff year under coach Dan Ellis, who left Springfield to take the head coaching position at West Chester East High School, the Cougars proved they could be one of the top teams in the Central League.

With the game tied at 21 apiece at the half, the Springfield defense was up to the challenge in the second half and held Interboro scoreless while the offense scored touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters to seal the victory.
Leading the way for Springfield on offense was running back Rob Murphy, who rushed for 157 yards on 17 carries.
