
Mr. John Richard Gensel, 65, died on March 4, 2012 at his home in Springfield, Pennsylvania.
Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Gensel was a graduate of Thomas Edison High School. Later he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from LaSalle University.
He was a resident of Springfield for the past 28 years. He worked for Household Finance; Mellon Bank (formerly Girard Bank); operated several Subway sandwich shops and started up a gutter service company, Flo-Free.

Mr. Gensel was a longtime member of Covenant United Methodist Church in Springfield. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War era, as a Russian Translator in the Intelligence Division and was a member of the VFW and the American Legion.
During his Springfield residency, John was a Cub Scout Den Leader and Pack Leader. He coached several years in little league, both baseball and soccer, was a proud member of the Covenant Softball team; the Halderman League Fast Pitch Team; Hoffman League Fast Pitch Team; and local Sproul Lanes Bowling teams for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn (nee Ballas) Gensel, two sons, Jason Richard (Melissa) Gensel and James Richard Gensel, two grandchildren, John Rocco Gensel and Jacob Reese Gensel. He is also survived by his sister, Marie Sheridan.
Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Saturday, March 10, 2012, after 2 p.m. at the Covenant United Methodist Church, 212 W. Springfield Road, Springfield, PA 19064 until the time of his funeral service at 3 p.m.
Interment will be private.
