Philabundance receives 1,000 turkeys and $5,000 from GIANT'S "Feeding Our Neighbors Everyday" campaign

GIANT Food Stores’ “Feeding Our Neighbors Everyday” holiday campaign helped kick off Philabundance’s annual turkey drive with 1,000 turkeys and $5,000 to the food bank to use to purchase food when it needs it most, after the holidays.

“While food banks receive increased donations during the holiday season, these donations tend to slow down early in the New Year, even though the need doesn’t,” said

Tom Lenkevich, GIANT president. “Feeding our neighbors every day is part of GIANT’s mission, but we can’t do it alone, and we need your help to end hunger in greater Philadelphia.”

“Philabundance is grateful to our partner, GIANT, for again providing an abundance of turkeys to help us feed our neighbors in need. While more than 750,000 in our area face hunger, fewer of them will be hungry due to this generous donation,” said Glenn Bergman, executive director, Philabundance. “We also applaud GIANT for its efforts to help fight hunger all year round, by providing donations not just during the holidays, but all year round, as hunger is an issue 365 days a year.”

According to Philabundance, the donation of 1,000 turkeys can help feed nearly 8,000 people.

As part of GIANT’s Feeding Our Neighbors holiday campaign, nearly $90,000 in turkeys and cash will be donated to seven regional food banks and local hunger organizations throughout three states.

In addition to Philabundance, Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, FeedMore – Central Virginia Food Bank, Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, Second Harvest Food Bank of the Lehigh Valley, Maryland Food Bank – Western Branch and Lancaster County Council of Churches will receive donations.

GIANT shoppers can help by donating their Free Turkey Extra Reward certificates at the register to Philabundance. Customers who earn 400 extra reward points through Nov. 12 are eligible for the Free Turkey Extra Reward certificate which can be donated now through Nov. 25.
