'Solicitors' Exploited Citizens' Charity In Delaware County: Police

Springfield Police said scammers are soliciting donations from drivers by claiming money will be used for a 13-year-old girl's funeral.

SPRINGFIELD, PA — Authorities in Delaware County are warning drivers of scammers posing as solicitors on highways.

According to Springfield Township Police, people have been soliciting money from drivers on highways in the township.

The "solicitors" claim money donated to them will help pay for the funeral of a 13-year-old girl killed in a crash, according to a photo shared by police.

"These persons have been displaying these signs in an attempt to exploit good natured citizens," police said. "As sad as it sounds, it’s fictitious."

Police have made contact with these scammers and will be citing and charging them for every time police found them to be in violation of state and local laws.

According to Fox 29, five people have been arrested in connection with the recent scam.
