Springfield Crime Blotter: Drugs, Theft, Threats, More
Police said a man came into the Saxer Avenue Wawa armed with a hammer and threatened patrons. See details on this and more incidents here.
SPRINGFIELD, PA — Police in Springfield Township issued their weekly crime blotter Monday.
Incidents in the blotter occurred between May 31 and June 4.

May 31, 12:42 p.m.
While in the Springfield Mall lot, a Macy’s employee approached an officer to report a male walking had just stolen merchandise from the store. The male was stopped by Officer DiRemigio and found in possession of stolen merchandise. He was also found to have drug paraphernalia, including hypodermic needles. Matthew Bailey, 37, of Magnolia, Delaware, was taken into custody, charged with Retail Theft and drug offenses, and held for arraignment.
May 31, 4:26 p.m.
A 39-year-old male from Morton will be charged with Public Drunkenness and Disorderly Conduct after being found intoxicated and unable to stand or walk on his own on the 200 block of Fairview Road. He was turned over to a friend.

May 31, 5:47 p.m.
Officers received a report of a male inside the Giant Store, 700 block of West Sproul Road, possibly injecting heroin. Officers located the male nearby and found him to be under the influence of narcotics. He also was in possession of drug paraphernalia and heroin. He was identified and found to have active arrest warrants from Bucks County and Philadelphia. The male, 29, of Glassboro, New Jersey, was taken into custody and later released to the Philadelphia Sheriff. Drug charges are pending.
June 2, 4:19 p.m.
Officers responded to the Springfield Mall for a report of an intoxicated male loitering inside the Spencer’s Store. The male was located and found to be intoxicated. He became disorderly and was taken into custody. Christopher McNeill 56, of Swarthmore, was also found to have an active arrest warrant out of Delaware County for assault. He was charged with Public Drunkenness and Disorderly Conduct and turned over to Delaware County Constables.
June 4, 3:33 p.m.
Jaret Gilchrist, 21, of Darby, was charged with Retail Theft after Macy’s security at the mall reported he had stolen $85 worth of clothing.
June 4, 8:23 p.m.
Officers were called to the Wawa, 100 block of Saxer Avenue, to investigate a report that a male subject had threatened patrons at the business with physical harm and was walking around with a hammer in his hand. The male left the area in a vehicle. Det. McCarthy is following up.
June 4, 9:02 p.m.
A patron of the Chipotle Grill, 800 block of Baltimore Pike, reported that she had left her wallet near the drink station, and when she went to retrieve the wallet, it was missing cash. Det. McCarthy is investigating.
