Springfield Crime Blotter: DUI Crash, Thefts At Target, More

A car dealership was broken into and cash was stolen from it on Aug. 9, police said. See details on this and other crimes here.

SPRINGFIELD, PA — The most recent Springfield Police crime blotter is out, and of course we have the details.

The blotter covers police-handled incidents that occurred in the township between Aug. 5 and Aug. 11.

Aug. 5, 7:04 p.m.
Target, 1200 Baltimore Pike, reported a retail theft. Security observed two juvenile males, both 16 years old from Broomall, concealing items in their school bags. The boys were detained and turned over to police. They were issued citations for Retail Theft and released to their parents.

Aug. 6, 4:33 p.m.
Target, 1200 Baltimore Pike, reported a retail theft. Cenaida Marcano, 46, of Bensalem, was observed concealing items in a personal bag. She went through the self-checkout and paid for some merchandise, but not what was in the bag. The value of the theft was $250. She was turned over to police and charged with Retail Theft. Marcano also had an active warrant out of Montgomery County for a prior offense. She was held for arraignment. Det. Nutley is handling the case.

Aug. 8, 12:34 a.m.
Springfield officers received a county broadcast that Upper Darby was pursuing a vehicle wanted for a home invasion in Philadelphia and a shooting in Darby Borough. Officer Dan Boyd observed the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Baltimore Pike at Saxer Avenue. He lost sight of the vehicle as it continued west on Baltimore Pike. While checking the area, Officer Boyd found that the vehicle had crashed in the 900 block of Woodland Ave and the driver fled the vehicle. Officers from multiple jurisdictions were searching the area when a resident of Greenbriar Lane reported his rear door kicked in. The family was escorted from the home and police searched inside. Wali Shereef Davis-Grant, 25, of, Philadelphia, was found hiding in the basement. He was taken into custody and turned over to Darby Borough officers. He is facing an extensive list of charges from multiple agencies.

Aug. 8, 9:36 p.m.
While investigating a vehicle crash at S State Road & Collins Drive, Officer Dante Annacone found one of the drivers to be intoxicated. Michael Balabayev, 48, of Drexel Hill, was unable to complete a series of field tests and was taken into custody. He was charged with DUI and released to a friend. Det. Nutley is handling the case.

Aug. 9, 7:23 a.m.
Reedman Toll Dodge, 236 Baltimore Pike, reported a burglary discovered. An employee arrived at work and found the door to the cash room had been kicked in. $200 dollars was missing from a filing cabinet. Security footage was turned over to police for review. Det. Devaney is investigating.

Aug. 11, 12:01 a.m.
While on patrol in the 700 block of Baltimore Pike, Officer Michael Kingsbury, observed a pedestrian crossing the highway in the middle of traffic causing several vehicles to stop. Joshua Nagel, 45, of Philadelphia, was found to be intoxicated and was taken into custody. He was cited for Public Drunkenness and held overnight until he was sober.

Aug. 11, 1:03 a.m.
Officers handled a medical emergency at the Springfield diner, 720 Baltimore Pike. The victim, Stephen A Crompton, Jr., was found to be under the influence of a narcotic and was transported to Springfield Hospital for treatment. A short time later, Crompton, Jr. walked from the ER after refusing treatment. Officer Kai DiRemigio stopped Crompton, Jr. and took him into custody for Public Drunkenness. He was found to have two warrants for probation and parole violations out of Philadelphia and the state of Pennsylvania. He was held and turned over to State Parole officers.

Aug. 11, 7:01 p.m.
Target, 1200 Baltimore Pike, reported a retail theft. Angad D Singh, 28, of Upper Darby, was observed opening seven DVD movie cases and removing the online codes for download. He was detained by security and turned over to police. The damaged DVDs totaled $197. While being processed by police, a quantity of heroin was found concealed in Singh’s shorts. He was charged with Retail Theft and Drug Offenses and was held for arraignment. Det. Nutley is handling the case.
