Springfield Crime Blotter: DUI, Internet Scam, Tires Slashed

Police said a woman eating at Panera had her wallet taken from her purse while she dined recently, police said. See the full blotter here.

Incidents included in the blotter occurred between July 9 and July 14.

July 9, 6:50 a.m.
A resident of the 800 block Grove Avenue reported sometime overnight someone slashed two tires of his vehicle and put a dent into the passenger door as the vehicle was parked on the street.

July 9, noon
A resident of the 400 block Indian Rock Drive reported she was contacted via phone by a computer company offering her a refund on a service contract because they were going out of business. They gained access to her computer and forced her to make a purchase of gift cards to get it back. This was found to be a scam. Note: Whenever phone conversations turn to making a purchase of gift cards, one should recognize the fraud and end the conversation.

July 9, 1 p.m.
A female reported that while sitting at Panera Bread her wallet was removed from her purse, and the credit cards inside were used to make unauthorized purchases at several stores. Det. Devaney is investigating.

July 9, 6:44 p.m.
Several eggs were thrown at a house on the 900 block Stoneybrook Drive sometime overnight.

July 9, 10:41 p.m.
Officers were called to the 200 block Hillview Drive for a report that two young males banged loudly on the front door and ran to the street to enter a vehicle and flee. A short time later, Officers were able to identify two juvenile males from Springfield found to be involved in the incident. Both were charged with Disorderly Conduct and Harassment.

July 12, 11:03 p.m.
An 18-year-old from Bala Cynwyd was arrested and will be charged with DUI and Drug Offenses after he was involved in a crash at the intersection of Wayne Avenue and Norwinden Drive Officers found drugs and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. The male provided a blood sample and was released to family.

July 13, 7:23 p.m.
Employees at the Express Store Springfield Mall reported 5 male subjects entered the store and began to put clothing inside Target shopping bags they brought with them. They fled to the parking lot and entered a waiting vehicle. Det. McCarthy is investigating.

July 14, 12:36 p.m.
A resident on the 400 block Claremont Road reported sometime over the weekend someone forcibly entered his vehicle parked on the street and removed a quantity of memorabilia and cash.

July 14, 7:41 p.m.
Officers investigated a crash on Springfield Road at Rose Lane and found the driver of the vehicle intoxicated. The 31-year-old male from Philadelphia was taken into custody and provided a blood sample. He was released to family and will be charged with DUI.
